creating a character
In the role-playing setting, characters have two main functions, as a vehicle for acting and as a vehicle for advancing the plot.
As a role, the character needs a voice and a basic personality.
As player in the plot, the character needs basic statistics and a basic personality.
Because it's hard to predict what happens in-session, it's better to prepare a character as both a role and a player within the plot.
